Camilla Caldwell – Violin

Camilla began violin studies at age 4 in a kindergarten string program and was hooked after playing in her first string ensemble at age 5.  Since then, she has played in numerous ensembles and orchestras through organisations such as Melbourne Youth Music, the Australian Chamber Orchestra, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, The University of Melbourne, the Melbourne Youth Chamber Project, The Flinders Quartet, Melbourne Fiddlers and Music Camp of Victoria. She spent five years playing with the Melbourne Youth Orchestra, having been accepted at age 12. Camilla has played under the baton of conductors such as Peter Bandy, John Curro, Fabian Russell, John Foreman, Andrew Wailes, Brett Dean, Benjamin Northey, Brett Kelly, Pat Miller and international conductors.

Camilla currently plays regularly for many choral, ballet, musical theatre groups, production companies, orchestras, and schools. Regular groups include University of Melbourne orchestra, the Heidelberg Chorale Orchestra, the Ballet Conservatoire orchestra, Symphony in a Day with Fabian Russell and regularly performing as concert master and solo violin in semi-professional musicals and quartet work.

Past engagements have included multiple Australian and World Premiers including an Australian premiere at Chapel off Chapel, Vision Australia Carols by Candlelight orchestra, Music Theatre Guild of Victoria orchestra, support for the Melbourne Symphony orchestra and associate concert master with Australian international Opera Company 2016 China tour.
Camilla is a keen soloist, and has performed at many eisteddfods and at both Melba Hall and the Melbourne Recital Centre. She looks forward to performing the Brahms violin concerto with U3A later this year.
